A remarkable premiere signals the opening of the 11th Athens Open Air Film Festival
The 11th Athens Open Air Film Festival, embarked yesterday, Monday the 14th of June, upon its summer journey among films, with the pan-hellenic premiere of the Oscar awarded film «Another Round» by Thomas Vinterberg, at the City of Athens Technopolis.
The evening will remain a memorable one to all, especially to the wonderful audience which stayed throughout the whole screening and enjoyed the second half and the triumphant finale of the film in the company of rain, holding umbrellas and adding a romantic and perfectly suited north-european touch to the exciting film scenery displaying on the screen.
The Artistic Director of the Athens Open Air Film Festival and the Athens International Film Festival, Loukas Katsikas, in the presence of the President of the Athens Film Society, Maria Bobola, welcomed the people and applauded their affectingly devoted attendance which overcomes weather challenges with the priority and safety required by the times we live in. Loukas Katsikas thanked in the warmest words the distributor of the film «Another Round», Mr. Zinos Panayiotidis (Rosebud.21), for his perennial course and enormous offering in «the film education and maturity of the greek audience in the previous decades».
Next, he called on stage the institutional supporters of the evening, Anna Rokofylou, President of the City of Athens Cultural, Sport and Youth Organization of the Athens Municipality and Konstantinos Dedes, President of the City of Athens Technopolis.
Firstly, Anna Rokofylou, representing as well the Mayor of Athens who could not attend the screening, declared the opening of this year's edition. Delivering the Mayor's, Kostas Bakoyiannis' speech she said:
«The Athens Open Air Film Festival is the bloved film institution that marks each year the summer season and transforms our town into an infinite open-air cinema, under the stars. It is my great pleasure to declare tonight the opening of the 11th edition of this major film celebration which we support fervently and continuously through the City of Athens Cultural, Sport and Youth Organization of the Athens Municipality. Coming out of a rough year of introversion and isolation with optimism, events such as the Athens Open Air Film Festival and the Athens International Film Festival which will succeed it in September, offer a breath of entertainment and escape to the residents and visitors of the town. They reveal our Athens as a beacon of modern civilisation in Greece and abroad! I wish you enjoy the screenings as well as a culturally full summer with safety!»
The President of the City of Athens Cultural, Sport and Youth Organization pointed out from her part how thrilled she is about the 11th edition of the much beloved, summer film institution, by quoting a phrase of the great French director Jean-Luc Godar that «cinema produces memories» and wished to all only happy memories out of beautiful film screenings.
Lastly, the President of the City of Athens Technopolis, Konstantinos Dedes, spoke with optimism about the restart of cultural activity in our town, and on the occasion of the film, he stressed the importance of «enjoying life at every opportunity».
The screening was attended - among others - by the Executive Regional Councillor of Attica, in charge of theatrical and music events, Charis Romas, the Head of the Department of Performing Arts & Cinema of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Eleni Toubanaki, the Director of Budget and Financial Management of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Yiorgos Karachalios, the Director of Planning and Production of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Foundation, Gavriella Triantafylli, and the journalist of ERT, Dora Anagnostopoulou.
The audience of the 11th Athens Open Air Film Festival was welcomed by the van of Pepper 96,6 in festive music selections.
The film-loving Fischer beer delightfully accompanied the screening inaugurating this year too our «refreshing» collaboration.

*IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS for audience attendance to the screenings*
In order to secure public health protection and a proper flow in the entrance of our viewers to the screenings, we would like to inform you that:
- Entrance to the screening premises will be permitted only by indicating the ENTRY PASS which viewers can provide
a. either on-site at the location of the screening
b. or through online reservation, three days before each screening (reservations open at noon) on aoaff.gr
- Each viewer is allowed ONLY ONE entry pass.
- Entrance and pass supply will commence an hour and a half before each screening.
- Viewers who have online reservations must collect their entry pass at least 15' earlier than the time of the screening, otherwise their seat will be released and instantly re-supplied
- The necessary distance between viewers will be strictly kept.
