28th Athens International Film Festival: The poster
28th ATHENS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL | 28 September - 9 October 2022
The 28th edition of the Athens International Film Festival returns more optimistic and with more events than ever before. This international institution offers a unique cinematic experience and an outlet for citizens and visitors to the city. It showcases new voices from world cinema, it offers its audience screenings of the best and most highly-anticipated films of the year, in attendance of a select group of special guests, it organises tributes, special screenings, masterclasses and side events, thus justifying the audience’s fervent love for the event throughout the years.
It is with great joy that we present to you the poster of the 28th Athens International Film Festival, by the visual communication designer, Vassilis Mexis.
Vassilis Mexis, a first class Honours graduate in Graphic Design, has been creating the posters for the Athens Open Air Film Festival and the Athens International Film Festival since 2016. Since 2013 he has also been working in the advertising sector as Art Director with a number of distinguished campaigns under his belt. He has also edited the covers of books and high-circulation magazines. His work has been showcased both in print and online media having received awards in national and international competitions.
The poster of the 28th Athens International Film Festival in the words of the designer himself:
“This year’s poster is inspired by the reality that surrounds us. Coming out of a long period of cosmic unrest and a state of collective moroseness we have experienced as a species. From a darkness which persistently envelops us.
Through the darkness, however, a light always shines. The Athens International Film Festival visualises this light as a result of a cultural Bing Bang through which life emerges, the promise of a new beginning, in the form of a mythical bloom: a lotus, the symbol of rebirth and creation, an expression of optimism and hope and a necessary reminder that art will always be there for us to light our way through the darkness.”
We would like to note that following the secure and successful hybrid format of the Festival’s previous two events, the aim is for the 28th organisation to be exclusively hosted in indoor cinema venues, while observing the guidelines and code of conduct as outlined by the relevant competent bodies of the State.
