The multi-award-winning “Secret Agent” by Kleber Mendonça Filho is coming to the 31st Athens International Film Festival

Honored with the Best Director and Best Actor (for the exquisite Wagner Moura) Awards in this year’s Cannes Film Festival, “The Secret Agent” comes to STEGI for the first time in Greece, as part of the 31^st AIFF, in a triumphant screening simultaneous with the greatest films festivals in the world. 

About the film

1977. Under Brazil’s dictatorial regime, a 40-year-old man of vague intentions and a mysterious past, seemingly under threat, arrives at the city of Recife. His coming ignites the plot of an exciting political thriller in which the creator of marvelous films like “Aquarius” and “Bacurau” realizes a brilliant invocation of pure, fulfilling cinema of the kind intended for the movie houses and the big screen. Kleber Mendonça Filho exercises a commendable control over his narration, incorporates different film genres and references within a unified whole and beneath the suspense and the social commentary subtly drives the film towards a broader aim: a declaration of faith in cinema’s power to restore truth, keep memory alive and become an indelible vehicle of eternal remembrance.

The screening will take place on Thursday, October 2^nd, at the Central Stage of Onassis Stegi.

The 31st Athens International Film Festival with the major support of the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center and Nova as its major sponsor will take place from October 1st to October 12th.

The PRESS CONERENCE of the 31st AIFF will take place on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, at the Auditorium Theo Angelopoulos of the French Institute of Greece, at 18:30.

The venues of the festival are DANAOS I, OPERA I, ASTOR, ASTY, TRIANON, MEGARON and ONASSIS STEGI.
