“Choreographing the Frame”: A masterclass by the acclaimed choreographer Damien Jalet

The 31st Athens International Film Festival continues the announcements of this year's edition and through supporting the dialogue around new forms of expression presents a very special Masterclass, which examines the relationship between dance and cinema, analyzing the artistic and narrative intersections of the two arts.

Tuesday, October 7 12:00 - 14:30 | French Institute of Greece

The masterclass is presented by the renowned and internationally acclaimed choreographer Damien Jalet, entitled "Choreographing the Frame", and will take place on Tuesday, October 7, at 12:00 at the Auditorium Theo Angelopoulos of the French Institute of Greece. It will be held entirely in English.

Admission is free and is open to both film and dance professionals as well as the general public, with advance booking required HERE.

Damien Jalet will talk about his practice as a choreographer in film and the unique approach and techniques he has developed working with directors such as Luca Guadagnino, Paul Thomas Anderson, Jacques Audiard and Alice Rohrwacher, as well as his demanding work with leading actors, helping them to develop precision in their movements during acting with film clips and videos of rehearsals.

He will also discuss how his work for film has changed his choreographic approach to theatre, his historical film references, the evolving role of choreographers in film and the lack of recognition of their work in the industry.
