31st Athens International Film Festival: Call for submissions of Greek short films
The 31st Athens International Film Festival will take place from October 1st to 12th, 2025.
Submission Deadline: Sunday, July 13, 2025
The Athens International Film Festival has been actively supporting Greek cinema since its first edition, with a series of initiatives and actions that preserve and enhance each year this relationship of enthusiastic interest, protection, and genuine love.
One of the most special and strongest ties between the Athens International Film Festival and Greek cinema remains, of course, the much-loved Greek Short Stories Competition Section, a living core of creativity that has been helping, for more than 13 years, new Greek short films to find their way to the big screen and meet their audience.
It is one of the most recognized and established competition institutions for the genre in Greece, which provides young and emerging creators with a recognized and supportive framework to present their work to the public and professionals in the field. The films participating in the Greek Short Stories Competition Section are distinguished for their diversity of subject matter, directorial boldness and narrative freshness, often highlighting the trends and anxieties of a new generation of artists.
Many of the films that have been awarded or screened in this beloved Festival section were the starting point of a successful career for their creators. In fact, some creations have gone on to be internationally acclaimed, confirming the value and impact of the institution as a new talent incubator.
The Greek Short Stories Competition Section is not just a screening platform. It is a dynamic environment for dialogue, experimentation and development. It is the mirror of a cinema that persists, dares and transforms itself, and that finds in the Athens International Film Festival a valuable ally on its journey towards a wide audience and wider recognition.
