The Festival honours this year's best newcomers
Elias Demetrioy, Kika Georgiou and Diomidis Koufteros won the Best Newcomer awards, for director, performance by an actress, and performance by an actor, respectively
Continuing its tradition, the Athens International Film Festival honoured this year's best newcomer artists of Greek films, in a brief ceremony before the screening of the film "The Daughter" by Thanos Anastopoulos, which was the second surprise screening of this year's edition. Elias Demetriou was named best director for "Fish n' Chips", while Kika Georgiou and Diomidis Koufteros won their awards for their perfomances in "The City of Children" and "Fish n' Chips" respectively.
The three winners thanked the jury, composed of Sotiris Gkoritsas, Argiris Papadimitropoulos, Maria Nafpliotou, Elias Adamis and Konstantinos Kontovrakis, as well as the festival for the honour. "It's a festival that embraces and supports short films and features," said Mr Demetriou, who premiered his film at last year's Athens International Film Festival before its release in cinemas.
Kika Georgiou dedicated her award to her director, Giorgos Gkikapeppas, who, as she stressed, made the film with virtually no help, and expressed her joy at being honoured at this particular festival which she has attended for years, discovering many great artists and noteworthy films in the process.
