The winners of Nespresso Talents 2020 [Greek competition]
Nespresso and Athens International Film Festival collaborated in Nespresso Talents 2020, an international contest for short films in vertical format, which aims to bring out exceptional talents from all over the world. The contest was organised in Greece for the first time.
This year’s theme, “Virtuous Circles”, inspired directors from all over the world and had a great reach through local competitions in 11 countries.
The international participations reached 743 films from 47 countries while 30 directors participated in the Greek contest with imaginative films. The national jury comprised of the award winning screenwriter and director Vasilis Kekatos, the Head of Greek Short Stories – In Competition section of AIFF and editor-in-chief of cinemagazine.gr, Panos Gkenas, and fashion designer, Vassia Kostara.
1st Prize
“Unlocked” by Alexandros Tsilifonis
As the director says: «It takes just one person to make a difference in the life of another person».
2nd Prize
“Coffee and Flowers” by Antonis Kitsikis
As the director says: «The light is a continuous circle. Everything is connected. From the smallest molecule
to the greatest star. I decided to document the course of coffee. From its harvesting to my cup, until its use as plant food. Something that is ‘useless’ like waste can produce something beautiful and express feelings».
3d Prize
“Sportex” by Thanos Liberopoulos and Stella Meletiou
As the directors say: «The main idea of the film is that children can teach us how to share». Greek winners will receive the total amount of 3000€ as a prize.
The Greek award ceremony will take place during the 26th Athens International Film Festival.
