The Athens International Film Festival presents the tremendous “Zone of Interest” in a nationwide premiere – experience

After a decade-long cinematic absence, the elusive and innovative creator of "Sexy Beast" and "Under the Skin" makes a triumphant return with one of the top and most acclaimed films of the year.

Winner of the Grand Prix at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and the International Association of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) Prize, but also one of the firm favourites for the upcoming Oscars for Best Director and Best International Film, Jonathan Glazer's “The Zone of Interest” is a stunning and courageous unconventional treatise on the Holocaust, based on the same-titled book by Martin Amis, and will have its nationwide premiere in an imposing and highly atmospheric space which, especially for this evening, will be transformed into a cinema installation.

It is a listed building of great significance, the Bageion Hotel in Omonia, an architectural landmark of Athens which was built in the late 19th century based on Ernst Ziller's architectural plans and is one of the oldest and historically charged places in the centre of our city.

An imposing hotel that hosted some of the most important names of the Greek intellectuals of the 1920s (among which Kostas Varnalis, Napoleon Lapathiotis, Tellos Agras, Yannis Ritsos, Yannis Tsarouchis etc. ) but also imposed by the Germans during the occupation period, the neoclassical building will be a fitting setting to accommodate a genuine artistic creation for the need to preserve historical memory, which seems more urgent and relevant than ever.

The space will be curated by the stage designer Loukia Hatzelou. The screening will take place on Monday 11th of December, at 9:30 pm, exclusively upon invitations which will be made available by cinemagazine.gr through its Social Media accounts.

The film will be released in cinemas on the 14th of December by Spentzos Film.
