However, the decision to replace the team’s leaving coach Don Revie with Brian Clough from Derby County caused a stir; Clough was Revie’s sworn enemy and an outspoken critic of Leed’s dodgy tactics (and indeed it is still considered Britain’s dirtiest football team.) Intent on rebuilding everything from scratch, Clough announced to his players that they should get rid of all their trophies, because none of them was won fairly.
