Versailles
Paris, the present. Nina, homeless and unemployed is wandering the streets with her 5-year-old son, Enzo. Their footsteps lead them to the forest of Versailles, where Nina will decide, apparently on an impulse, to abandon her son at the hands of a clochard she barely knows. Sparse and economical, Pierre Schoeller’s film is a compelling study of poverty and social disintegration, free of sentimentality and pretentiousness. Versailles was featured in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes.
