Las Meninas
In a large, lavish suburban villa resembling a huge art installation through a combination of strategically placed mirrors, a thirty-year-old sickly man takes advantage of his condition to manipulate and terrorize his parents and siblings. But what really sets Las Meninas apart from other family dramas is its otherwordly atmosphere and its underlying sense of dread: drawing from his experience as a visual artist and clearly influenced by the films of Derek Jarman, Ihor Podolchak initiates an ingenious game of clues with the spectator, offering just a few pieces of the puzzle at a time and leaving it up to the audience to pick them up and combine them. Las Meninas was featured at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
