My Winnipeg
When Guy Maddin decided to name his film ‘My Winnipeg’ he meant every word of it. Like an eccentric tour guide, the Canadian director leads his camera through the streets of Winnipeg in an endearing ‘docutaria’, a fantastical documentary about his hometown as it is and as he experiences it in his memories and dreams. The boundaries between history, local lore, daily life, myth and reality become blurred as Maddin progresses in his travel through Winnipeg landmarks interlacing his narration with personal thoughts and reflections. Elegiac, dreamlike and enriched with healthy doses of satire and humor, My Winnipeg received the Best Canadian Feature Film Award at the Toronto Film Festival in 2007.
