THE LOVED ONES

Young Brett feels quilty for his father's death in a car accident and his mother is unable to help as he drowns into depression. He finds shelter in music and his girlfriend's hugs, showing signs of recovery. But there is also another girl, his silent fellow student Lola who would die (or rather kill) to make him hers. When Brett refuses to escort her to the prom Lola enlists her father to kidnap him and the young man is soon found pinned (literally) on a chair with discoballs, pink satin dresses and tons of glitter around him. Lola is now the queen of the prom and explores all possible ways a nail, a needle or a drilling machine can be used as means of torture. "Loved Ones" is not just a bloody thriller. It's a study on fear focusing on three teenagers oozing with hormones, unexpected reactions and worries. A great hope for the first time director and down under horror flicks in general.
