Drive
An introverted driver living on the wrong end of Los Angeles, does any kind of job having to do with cars – even acting as the getaway driver for robberies. When he meets Irene (Carey Mulligan) and her son, Benicio, he feels his inner balance shifting, but the happiness of hope doesn’t last long. An homage to the b-movies of the 80s, William Friedkin and early Michael Mann, by Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn (“Pusher” trilogy, “Valhalla Rising”) with the phenomenal Ryan Gosling in the lead. Well-shot action in noir backgrounds, cinephile references and few dialogue sections, “Drive” combines the self-referential jokes about the film industry and the juicy fun of action films, proving that art-house cinema can sneak into Hollywood to perform small miracles.
