House of Tolerance
The titillating story of a Parisian brothel on the eve of the 20th century, as it’s struggling to survive the financial wilting and the multiple dangers of prostitution. Behind the curtains of the seductive whorehouse we observe the daily lives of the prostitutes, which are reflected as a poetic essay with mystical nuances. After an extensive period of historical research, the provocateur of French cinema, Bertrand Bonello, translates the end of the era of romanticism into images and traces the path to revealing a female psyche which seems to have been buried for centuries.
