The Conquest
Divided between the personal and political path of the sitting President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, Xavier Durringer’s film tells his story starting from 2002, when the then-president of the French Republic, Jacques Chirac, refuses to appoint him prime minister. Huge fights, backstabs, frenetic election campaigns and extramarital sins follow, in an entertaining political farce about the Machiavellian dwarf of politics, which constitutes the humorous French answer to “The Queen” by Stephen Frears.
