These Final Hours

In Zak Hilditch's post-apocalyptic drama, which screened at the Directors' Fortnight in the last Cannes Film Festival, Australia has only 12 hours left before it's wiped off the face of the earth. On the last day of their lives, James finds out that Zoe is pregnant.

Only problem is, Zoe is "the other woman" and James has agreed to meet his official girlfriend at a wild party filled with drugs, group sex and rock'n'roll, where they will while away their final hours. On the way to this delirious end-of-the-world fest, James saves a young girl from the hands of her abductors, realizing what he really wants to do before he dies is help her find her father.

In "These Final Hours", Hilditch provocatively discounts any chance of survival, allowing people to surrender to their most primal instincts before a tsunami of hot lava washes over them forever. In this context, James (Nathan Phillips) is nothing but an anti-hero, who finally finds what he was looking for, even if just for a while: love.. K.Th.
