"The Dark Backward" is a surprising masterpiece by one of the most ambiguous American directors working today, made at the impossibly young age of 25, obviously influenced by his early days as a cartoonist, especially evident in the way he distorts - both visually and in terms of delivery - a series of then popular actors, like Judd Nelson, Bill Paxton, Rob Lowe, Lara Flynn Boyle, Wayne Newton and James Caan.
