Altman merges psychology with the supernatural in a fluid descent into the deadly illusions and dark sexual visions of a lonely woman, where the blurry boundaries between fantasy and reality conjure up a seductive movie riddle.
The multiplicity of the female psyche, its unexpected manifestations and its unexplored aspects - a recurring theme in Robert Altman's oeuvre, permeating some of him most important films (most notably "3 Women") - turns into a complicated puzzle in "Images".
Inspired by Susannah York's tour de force (Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival), the magical Irish scenery where the movie was shot, horror genre conventions, John Williams' Oscar-nominated score and Vilmos Zsigmond's brilliantly innovative cinematography, Altman merges psychology with the supernatural in a fluid descent into the deadly illusions and dark sexual visions of a lonely woman, where the blurry boundaries between fantasy and reality conjure up a seductive movie riddle.
