A legendary film noir by "Rebel Without a Cause" and "Johnny Guitar" director Nicholas Ray. A melancholy love story and a scathing look on the entertainment industy with Humphrey Bogart delivering what he considered to be the best performance of his career. A Hollywood era masterpiece.
Down-on-his-luck Hollywood screenwriter Dixon Steele, known for his violent temper and anti-social behavior, is considered the main suspect in the murder of a hat-check girl he invited to his apartment to help him with a screen adaptation. A young neighbor who seems to be attracted by his brooding personality, offers him a fake alibi and helps him evade the authorities. But the closer they get, the more she doubts his true identity, casting shadows on their fragile relationship. Nicholas Ray spins a melancholy love story riddled with secrets, based on a self-destructive anti-hero, con- demned to live as an outcast because of his own compulsions. "In a Lonely Place" is a bitter commentary on the alienating nature of show business, a murder mystery imbued with real existential angst and one of the most beautiful film noirs in Hollywood’s Golden Age.
