Little England
27/9/2015, 20:15, Ταινιοθήκη της Ελλάδος
Within the context of its continuing collaboration with the Artists with Disabilities Movement, the festival presents a maximum accessibility screening featuring Pantelis Voulgaris' "Little England" with audio description for people with visual disabilities and captions for the deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (SDH).
Veteran filmmaker Pandelis Voulgaris returns with "Little England", written by Ioanna Karystiani and based on an adaptation of her own novel "The Jasmine Isle", published in 1997. The story takes place on the Greek island of Andros in the 30s and 40s, where lives are defined by the constant absence of seafaring men, the loneliness of the women left behind and the strict social mandates of the era. Work, love, passion, faith, oblivion, personal interests, guilt, the war, mourning, everything is inextricably connected to maritime life and to the spirit of the sea. The director transforms the narrative into unforgettable images that shed light on the island’s everyday life, hidden secrets, personal turmoil and the price you have to pay when living in a world where rules can’t be bent.
