ROCK HUDSON: ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWED
UK | 2023 | COLOR | DCP | 104’ | ENGLISH
It’s a shame that nowadays practically noone seems to remember Rock Hudson. A charmer envied by men and loved by women and also Douglas Sirk’s favorite for a series of insurmountable melodramas in the ‘50s. ‘But’ he was gay. And this secret was kept airtight until the disastrous year of 1985, when Rock was dying, torn apart by AIDS. In his documentary, Stephen Kijak, through his extensive material and saucy but not sensationalist mood, explores how the tragic second chapter of a man’s life who was forced to invisibility in order to exist, transmuted into the glorious moment when the countdown of a till then invincible disease began. I.D.
