Maria, 10, lives with her mother, Cynthia, in a garbage (and love) filled house. Despite Cynthia’s psychosis, she is utterly devoted to her daughter, gathering trash she offers her in absolute adoration. Until one day she is crashed under her own trash. Maria is then violently exiled from her childhood’s garbage fort so as to be adopted by a tender foster mother. Just after graduating high school she seems almost normal, until one fatal encounter resurfaces every child trauma. Typical Brit and Neil Jordan influenced aesthetics, a mesmerizing leading performance and a weird combination of magic and disgust that won’t go away. D.P.
