LOST COUNTRY
SERBIA, FRANCE, CROATIA, LUXEMBOURG | 2023 | COLOR | DCP | 105’| SERBIAN
1996, Serbia. Amidst protests against the Milošević regime, 15-year-old Stefan will have to revolt against what he holds most precious. He must face his beloved mother, the object of rebellion for his friends due to her being a press representative for the corrupt government. Politically conscious and forging a great sense of empathy that brings to mind the cinema of Krzysztof Kieślowski, Vladimir Perišić’s film depicts the pressing dilemma of his green hero as a dangerous, oppressing dragnet is closing unpredictably. Jasna Djuricic, the jawdropping actress of ‘Quo Vadis, Aida?’ plays the mother. Best Actor Award in the Festival of Sarajevo for the young protagonist. Th.P.
