Ariane, half-French, half-Guatemalan, lives in Quebec, working as a translator in a factory employing mainly cheap workers from Guatemala. The cruelty of the factory’s foreman and the violation of every legal aspect of work bring her closer to desperate people. After all, in a way, she is one of them. But at some point push comes to shove. A poignant political drama, in the footsteps of Stéphane Brizé, absolutely timely, frantic and urgent. Cinema of directorial prowess, tenaciously present, militant, but also reflective, since it examines dialectically the inherent flaws of both sides, without ever losing its moral compass. The hospital scene will forever haunt you. I.D.
