SOUND OF FALLING | IN DIE SONNE SCHAUEN
05/10/2025, 18:30, CINOBO OPERA 1
GERMANY | 2025 | COLOR | DCP | 149’ | GERMAN
A farm in the German countryside becomes the common ground in the testimonies of four girls, whose stories span the entire 20th century. Time becomes a catalyst in a cinematic poem that examines the generational trauma imposed by patriarchy, dizzyingly traverses the distance from psychodrama to naturalism and from feminist narrative to elegy, and composes a shocking commentary on female nature and its place in what we have learned to read as History. For the mothers, daughters, sisters, the anonymous ghosts that stubbornly haunt its pages. Announcing the great directorial talent of Mascha Schilinski, a cinema of elaborate composition and high aesthetics, “Sound of Falling” won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, it is Germany's official submission for the upcoming Oscars, and for many turns into one of the defining films of the year.
