Having made a name for himself with outstanding music documentaries about Radiohead and Joy Division, the English director is now making his successful debut in fiction. He encounters one of jazz’s most legendary musicians, the pianist Bill Evans, in the early 1960s during a defining period in his life and career, when personal loss, long-standing addictions and creative dead ends were plunging him into an abyss from which only the healing power of love would provide a safety net. With Anders Danielsen Lie (“The Worst Person in the World”) delivering a unique portrayal of the iconic pianist, and Bill Pullman and Laurie Metcalf excellently supporting him, Grant Gee’s melancholic and exquisitely atmospheric ballad captures the extraordinarily fragile world of a superb artist who had to confront his personal demons before achieving artistic fulfillment. GRANT GEE
English director and cinematographer, born in 1964. He is well-known for is musical documentaries and music videos for artists such as Joy Division and Radiohead. This is his narrative feature debut.
