Mariana and Martin live on the same block of Buenos Aires. They pass by each other daily, shop at the same shops, swim in the same pool, but have never met. Martin rarely leaves the house after his break-up, while Mariana works as an architect and feels incapable of forming any kind of serious attachment since she’s coming out of a 4-year relationship. Gustavo Taretto uses as first material his short film of the same name, which won many awards worldwide, and films the lyricism of the urban landscape, as it defines the lives of its inhabitants. Inspired by the contradictions of a vast capital city, “Medianeras” is a pioneering romantic comedy, which does not choose the well-trodden path of focusing on the relationship of a couple, but prefers to tell the story of the days and hours before their encounter, while looking for the secret of romantic attraction in the streets of Buenos Aires.
