Silver Forest
16-year-old Sascha lives with his mother in a deserted and cold city in the Swiss Alps. He seems trapped in a dormant and chilly landscape, as his life is defined by others while he spends his nights drinking beer with his mates and vandalizing the city. One day he accidentally discovers in the woods the lair of a neo-Nazi group and – without realizing the ideology and its impact – joins their ranks with his friend. To what point, however, can the two young men go to prove to the older members that they deserve to be part of the group? Christine Repond’s first feature is inspired by real-life stories of racial violence that shook the peaceful society of Switzerland; immediate and deeply political, it outlines nascent violence in a shocking way. A realistic coming-of-age story, “Silberwald” reflects on screen the anguish of the teenage condition, while at the same time touching upon the universal plight of racism
