The notion of the return to nature is unexpectedly pushed to the extreme thanks to the story of a lonely girl who surrenders to her most animalistic instincts after a chance meeting with a wolf. A postmodern take on "Beauty and the Beast" and, at the same time, an anarchist and unexpectedly sensual tale about the (repressed) beast we all conceal within us, a tale boasting the most hotly discussed sex scene of the year.

20-year old Ania divides her time between hospital visits to her ailing grandfather and a boring office job, where she is constantly taken advantage of by her boss. After running across a wolf that has somehow lost its way in a park near her house, the lonely girl is taken over by an irresistible desire for contact not only with nature, but also with her own dark side. Soon she will defy all convention, gradually giving in to her animal instincts.
In her third directing attempt, German actress Nicolette Krebitz extracts an excellent performance from her young star, the revelatory Lilith Stangenberg, in an extreme but surprisingly sensual story about a shy woman's liberation from social conventions. "Wild" is a post-modern version of "Beauty and the Beast", as well as an anarchist parable on modern life and the (suppressed) animal within us. Screened at the Rotterdam International and Sundance Film Festivals.
