THERE WAS A TOWER: A PORTRAIT OF MIHALY VIG | OTT TORONY VOLT
HUNGARY | 2022 | COLOR | DCP | 103’ | HUNGARIAN
Outside Hungary, Mihály Víg is better known for his soundtracks in the films of Béla Tarr, having sealed them with his minimalist, highly atmospheric sound in films like ‘Werckmeister Harmonies’ and ‘The Turin Horse’, while he was the protagonist of ‘Satantango’. In his country, however, Vig is steadily considered since the ‘80s a major representative and pioneer of the underground and new wave scene, parallel to an adventurous life. A life which András Kécza, Tarr’s assistant director, is the right man to investigate and does so by delivering a documentary about a special talent and an unconventional character. Tilda Swinton serves as executive producer. L.K.
