The sensational Andrew Scott and the Oscar-worthy “ELSINORE” in its Greek premiere at the 32nd Athens International Film Festival

With a performance destined to leave an indelible mark on cinema and propel him all the way to the Oscars, Andrew Scott anchors the year’s most moving film, which won the International Audience Award at the recent Toronto International Film Festival.

The 32nd Athens International Film Festival powered by EKOMED (Hellenic Film & Audiovisual Center – Creative Greece), with DEI as Gold Sponsor and co-organized with OPANDA (Organization for Culture, Sports and Youth of the City of Athens), proudly presents the Greek premiere of Simon Stone’s “Elsinore”, bringing this year’s festival programme to a triumphant close.

In 1989, as he wages an unequal battle against AIDS, British actor Ian Charleson takes to the stage of London’s National Theatre to play Hamlet, the role of a lifetime. The star of the Oscar-winning film “Chariots of Fire”, rather than turning towards the glitter of Hollywood, chooses to return to his theatrical roots. There, however, his dream collides with the harsh reality of his fragile health.

Andrew Scott (“Fleabag”, “All of Us Strangers”), in one of the most defining performances of both his career and the year, brings Charleson to life with piercing honesty, humour and sensitivity, transforming his confrontation with death into an experience that touches both body and soul. Outstanding alongside him, Olivia Colman plays a doctor who, with protective tenderness, supports the actor and other gay men caught in the turmoil of the epidemic.

“Elsinore” is a bold cinematic drama that celebrates the healing power of art and the invisible forces that keep us standing through life’s most difficult trials.
