28th Athens International Film Festival: Greek Short Stories Awards

The jury of the Greek Short Stories In Competition section of the 28th Athens International Film Festival is composed of:

GEORGIS GRIGORAKIS, director, President 
ANTINOOS ALBANIS, actor
TAMILA KOULIEVA, actor
CHRISTINA LIAPI, Heretic Outreach Sales Representative
ALEXANDROS PAPAGEORGIOU, film critic.

Forty Greek short stories competed with each other in the 28th event of the Athens International Film Festival, for the following awards:

GOLDEN ATHENA Award
5 P.M. SEASIDE

In the jury’s own words:
“The award for the best film goes to a wonderful movie, which the entire jury loved. A film with a minimal and modest narrative yet impressive and deep on all levels.”

The award is accompanied by a cash prize of 2,000 Euros with the kind support of the Greek Film Centre.
 

SILVER ATHENA Award
MAGMA

In the jury’s own words:
”The Silver Athena is awarded to a special and captivating film which served a rare and difficult genre for Greek standards, skillfully  and with artistic precision.”


BEST DIRECTOR AWARD
Thanasis Trouboukis
for the movie UNDER THE LAKE

In the jury’s own words:
”The Best Director Award is presented to an impressively abstract portrait of a region and its people which hypnotised us with its wonderful and unforgettable imagery”.
The prizes are accompanied by a cash prize of 1,500 Euros each, with the kind support of the Greek Film Centre.

BEST SCREENPLAY AWARD
Thanos Tokakis
for the movie TOKAKIS OR WHAT’S MY NAME 
In the jury’s own words:
“The Best Screenplay Award is given to a brave and risky attempt at autofiction aiming to shed a light on the creation of the self instead of searching for the truth of the self”.

The award is accompanied by a cash prize of 1,500 Euros with the support of the ANT1  Screenwriting Academy.


SCHOLARSHIP by the ANT1 SCREENWRITING SCHOOL 
Melina Loukanidou
for the movie SUN AND SHADOW.
In the jury’s own words:
”The Scholarship by the ANT1 Screenwriting Academy is awarded to a director who tells her story with few means but in a most expressive manner”.
The scholarship covers free attendance for an entire academic year to lessons, seminars and lectures at the Academy.

BEST MALE PERFORMANCE AWARD
Antonis Tsiotsiopoulos
for the movie 5.P. M. SEASIDE, by Valentin Stejkal 
In the jury’s own words:
”Because he is an actor who will be of great interest in the future. Because he is an actor who is truly interested in art as a form of awakening from other comforts”. 


BEST FEMALE PERFORMANCE AWARD 
Lena Papaligoura
for the movie AIR HOSTESS-737, by Thanassis Neofotistos
In the jury’s own words:
“To a woman whose every role is a special journey. We hope that she continues her journeys, beautiful interpretative journeys, always with great performances, creative and eventful”.

ONASSIS AWARD
PENDULUS
, by Dimitris Gkotsis
In the jury’s own words:
”A film of social concern, sensitively directed which sheds light on the inner sanctum of a community right next to us, but which we barely know. With boldness and courage it deconstructs stereotypes in a reserved manner and in just 18 minutes succeeds in broadening our horizons about the world we live in”.

The award is accompanied by a cash prize of 5,000 Euros offered by ONASSIS CULTURE. The grant is presented to a director for the development of his/her next short or feature film script.
Note: To clarify, out of the films competing in the Greek Short Stories in Competition Section of the 28th Athens International Film Festival, those films which have previously received support by the Onassis Culture during their production and those which have already received the same award at the Drama International Short Film Festival will be excluded.

         

The statuettes Golden and Silver Athena were designed by George Sepetzoglou and are kindly sponsored by ZOLOTAS jewellery stores.

    The curtain fell on the 29th Athens International Film Festival Premiere Nights with major sponsor Nova, in a celebratory atmosphere on Saturday, October 7, in the packed TRIANTI hall of the Athens Concert Hall, with the Closing Ceremony and the Awards Ceremony of the institution, in the presence of the president of Athens ilm Society. Maria Bobola. The attendance at the cinemas was truly overwhelming.
