THE SOUND OF COLOGNE
GERMANY | 2022 | COLOR | DCP | 93’ | ENGLISH, GERMAN
A little journey to Cologne, a big tour around the sound of a city that defined electronic music since the ‘50s. A parade of names that made a difference, from Karlheinz Stockhausen to CAN and from KOMPAKT and A-Muzik to today’s apparent renaissance. With its fast-paced rhythm and information in techno bpm, Kristina Schippling’s documentary explores the probably most wounded city of World War II, how its pragmatism defeated romanticism and brought about this electronic mosaic and mostly: how certain young people decided, and still do, perhaps to a historic degree, that the merriment of creation, the joy of expression and pure fun are more important than profit.
