With this year's Palme d'Or, Sean Baker presents another pariah of the American dream: a joyous sex worker becomes protagonist (and victim) in her own fairy tale when she meets and marries Prince Charming in the face of a spoiled 20-year-old rich kid, son of a Russian oligarch. But when his parents find out, they instantly arrange a trip to the US to break up the marriage. A foul-mouthed and unruly combination of "Cinderella" and "Pretty Woman", a teasing comedy about social inequalities and shattered dreams, and at the same time a love story that goes awry turning into a life-altering experience of self-discovery for a woman who wanted only to believe in something better.

SEAN BAKER
American filmmaker, born in 1971. He got his BA in Film at New York University. Critics' darling and contemporary dean of Independent Cinema, he shows a particular fondness for stories of marginalized characters. Winner of Palme d' Or at Cannes.
