Josh O'Connor is utterly disarming in the role of a broken young farmer who tries to stand tall and claim a better life in front of his little daughter's sad eyes. When a fire destroys large tracts of land in rural Colorado, including his own farm, the hero has no choice but to start from scratch. To do so, he rallies around him the poor families who have also been devastated by the fires in the area. And like some other, smaller but fairer version of the American dream, they will all try together to lay the foundations for a better future. In adverse and difficult times, such as ours, films like the elegiac and sweet "Rebuilding" feel comforting and unpretentious in their attempt to whisper the need for humanity, community and solidarity against the great suffering of our world. All we need to do is lean in affectionately and listen to the valuable things they have to say. L.K.
