IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING
Toby Amies’ documentary takes us on a journey to one of the most eccentric and psychedelic places rock music has ever reached: to the court of the, perhaps, fallen yet bold and genius “Crimson King”, who is none other than the dynastic leader of King Crimson, Robert Fripp. The undeniable leader of the band and mastermind behind one of few such monolithic masterpieces which defined the Pantheon of prog music, confirms every rumour about himself but also his status as the first “modern man” of contemporary sound. Amies admitted that he initially intended to make a traditional autobiographical documentary but the madness behind the scenes resulted in his taking it in an unexpected and thrilling direction.

This documentary by Toby Amies takes us to one of the most eccentric and majestically psychedelic fields ever reached by rock music. In the court of the maybe fallen, probably schizophrenic, but definitely insolent and genius ‘Crimson King’, Robert Fripp, the mastermind of one of the few monolithic masterpieces that defined progressive rock’s pantheon, supports every rumour about him, but also his role as the first ‘modern human’ of contemporary sound. Amies has admitted he wanted to make a typical biographical documentary but the backstage madness and paranoia have led him to an unexpected and certainly more exciting direction. Th.K.
