12-year-old Bailey struggles in the minefield of her dysfunctional family, torn between a father about to marry his new girlfriend and a mother living under the constant threatening of an abusive partner. Facing a tough adolescence, she will find an unexpected ally in a mysterious stranger. The long-awaited Andrea Arnold feature film return is everything one might expect and more: a coming-of-age story where British harsh realities of the downtrodden meet magical realism and the world of fairy tales. An excellent soundtrack, queer sensibility and three sweeping performances from newcomer Nykiya Adams, Barry Keoghan and Franz Rogowski, lift off a film at once promising and risky as flying low over sharp cliffs.

ANDREA ARNOLD
Multi-award-winning English filmmaker, born in 1961. She studied at the American Film Institute. Three of her four feature films have been awarded the Cannes Jury Prize. She also has short films and television work as well as documentaries.
