In an expensive private school, a young teacher (Mia Wasikowska) decides to improve the eating habits of her students through a groundbreaking seminar on ‘Conscious Eating’. While her tactics become more extreme, making her seem more like a cult leader than a respected nutritionist, the children’s health deteriorates and the consequences become unpredictable. Balancing comedy, drama and horror, the Austrian director of ‘Lourdes’ returns with a pitch black, deeply ironic satire, reminiscent of Lanthimos, targeting contemporary eccentric health foods mania, as well as our sometimes blind trust to self-appointed experts. JESSICA HAUSNER
Austrian director and screenwriter, born in 1972. She studied directing at the Film Academy of Vienna, where she delivered her first short films. A prominent figure of the contemporary festival circuit. Her film ‘Lourdes’ won the FIPRESCI award, among other honors, in Venice Film Festival in 2009.
