ABOUT DRY GRASSES / KURU OTLAR ÜSTÜNE
TURKEY, FRANCE, GERMANY | 2023 | COLOR | DCP | 197’ | TURKISH
Return to the barren snowy landscapes of Anatolia for Nuri Bilge Ceylan. Samet, is an art teacher in a remote village living humbly in a cabin with his colleague and friend, Kenan. The friendly relationship with a female student finds them both accused of harassment. This is only the triggering event of the story, since Samet begins a journey accompanied by Kenan and Nuray, his female friend, also a teacher in a nearby town, in order to restore his lost faith in humans, finding only cynicism. Chekhovian slow burn drama by the great Turkish filmmaker and one of the films that stood out at the recent Cannes Festival, winning best female performance award for Merve Dizdar. P.K.

NURI BILGE CEYLAN
Turkish filmmaker born in 1959. He started studying Chemistry and Electrical Engineering but the distinctions in Photography and the cinema studios won him over. A favorite at Cannes, where he has received many distinctions. He won the Palme D’ Or at Cannes for ‘Winter Sleep’ in 2014. Perhaps the most prominent Turkish director alive.
