LAST SUMMER | L'ÉTÉ DERNIER
Francophonie Night
FRANCE | 2023 | COLOR | DCP | 104’ | FRENCH
Anne is a successful lawyer, living with her hus- band and their two daughters. When her husband’s 17-year-old son from a previous marriage moves in with them, Anne starts a fiery affair with him endangering her career and her family life. Revisiting 2019’s acclaimed Danish film, ‘Queen of Hearts’, Catherine Breillat strikes again with her best film in ages. The ideal acting ensemble helps her unravel sardonically the already scandalous story, disorienting audience expectations, subverting the characters’ balance of power and violently rupturing the French bourgeoisie illusion of happiness. Nominated for the Palme d’ Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Th.P.
