PAST LIVES (Opening Film)
USA | 2023 | COLOR | DCP | 105’ | ENGLISH, KOREAN
Closely related to ‘Brief Encounter’, ‘In the Mood for Love’ and ‘Before Sunrise’, Celine Song’s miraculous debut summarizes 25 years of love incubated between two individuals residing in different continents. It begins when two teenagers fall in love in ‘90s Seoul and ends in today’s New York when, as adults, they realize how the emotional fantasies they bred from afar stand the reality check. Months before competing for Best Picture, Best Direction and Best Screenplay at the Oscars, the universally best reviewed film of the year is an instant classic. A touching elegy on love and the part chance and probability play in our life, a film that seems destined to be loved by a wider audience. L.K.
