Upon hearing of the death of her mother, from whom she had long been estranged, the beautiful Mar returns to the tranquility of the Maltese countryside, with the sole aim of selling the land she has inherited and severing all ties with her homeland. In her attempt to claim the estate before her relatives, she meets an eighty-year-old singer of traditional għana music. The two of them take turns at the wheel in a touching road movie about the invisible roots that bind us to our homeland, to ourselves and to our fellow human beings. ALEX CAMILLERI

Maltese-American writer, director, and producer. His debut feature premiered to wide acclaim at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Award for Acting. The film was Malta’s submission to the 94th Oscars. Camilleri is the winner of the 2022 “Someone to Watch” Independent Spirit Award and a 2023 Guggenheim Fellowship.
