EVA STEFANI - THE WORLD UNDERNEATH | ΕΥΑ ΣΤΕΦΑΝΗ - ΚΟΣΜΟΣ ΑΝΑΠΟΔΑ

GREECE | 2026 | COLOR | DCP | 85’ | GREEK
Having just become a mother, director Eva Stefani began filming sex worker, Dimitra K., in 2009. It took twelve years to complete her project. In 2018, the filmmaker Εlias Giannakakis, a close friend of Stefani, began filming her with the aim of creating a documentary that would explore not only her own struggle with the film she had been working so hard to make, but also her very unique world. The director has been filming the idiosyncratic filmmaker for eight years, aiming to capture the most authentic portrait of her.

ELIAS GIANNAKAKIS

Elias Giannakakis was born in 1968. He has been working in filmmaking since 1996 as a filmmaker, director, screenwriter, and, occasionally, cinematographer and producer. He has made more than 400 documentaries for television and cinema, as well as five fiction films (three features and two shorts), consistently taking on the dual role of director and screenwriter. He was a regular contributor to the historic ERT documentary series Paraskinio from 2000 until its completion in 2013. His work focuses primarily on cultural, historical, and sports documentaries, while he turns to fiction filmmaking at more occasional intervals. It was, in fact, his desire to make fiction films that initially drew him to cinema. A devoted cinephile and film researcher since a young age, he has built and continues to expand an extensive archive of films, books, and publications devoted to Greek and international cinema.
