Twenty-five years on, Lisandro Alonso returns to “La Libertad”, the film that redefined the conventions of slow cinema, expanding it into a perpetual meditation. His protagonist remains isolated in the Argentine pampas, living the same ascetic daily life, until he learns that he must take care of his ailing sister. Then, solitary survival gives way to emotional responsibility. LISANDRO ALONSO

Argentine filmmaker, born in 1975. He studied filmmaking in Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. Considered to be a leading figure of contemporary “slow cinema”, a label he does not accept for his cinema, though he understands the film critics’ use of the term. Every film of his has premiered at the Cannes Films Festival, “Jauja” has won FIPRESCI prize in ‘Un Certain Regard’.
