Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles
1930s Paris and the scandal which follows the release of “L'Age d'Or” leaves Buñuel penniless and disgruntled with Dalí. His fortune changes when a friend of his wins the lottery and invests the money into making a documentary about the most impoverished community in Spain. And this is how this wonderfully illustrated animation begins, embellished with scents of a legendary time, it acts as both an homage to the great master of surrealist film as well as a study into the sinuous aspects of an untamed artistic vision.

It’s not easy to show the birth of Surrealism through an animation film, trying to enter Buñuel ’s mind and describe the circumstances of the production of his shocking (verging on exploitation) documentary ‘Land Without Bread’ while aiming to please a larger audience.
But Busom, with an admirable combination of animation, excellent choice of scenes from the original documentary, wonderful music and a great finish at the seams of the incredible incidents of an unexpected making of 87 years after, manages to do so uncompromisingly. He finds the timeless disturbance, counts in the moral consequences of aesthetic actions, respects the rules of a different era. Buñuel’s fans will find here the scents of a legendary era and hopefully everyone will live a rich, aesthetic, reflecting experience coupled with pure joy I.D.

SALVADOR SIMÓ BUSOM
He studied animation in Catalonia and at the American Animation Institute, he then worked for Disney and Pixar, before gaining valuable experience at the visual effects department of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, ‘Skyfall’, ‘The Wolfman’ and ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’. This is his third feature film.
